Every 4th of July, hundreds of women, men, children, and even a few four legged pets hit the water of the North Shore of Oahu in the annual Da Hui Paddle Race. This event is in it’s 38th year running, and it seems to attract more participants every Summer. There’s two courses; the 4 mile Short course starting from Sunset Beach, and the 7 mile Long course starting at Turtle Bay Resort. Both a challenge along the coast, this 4th of July Paddle Board Race ends in the picturesque Waimea Bay.
It was a perfect Summer day and we were there to capture some of the morning’s action as paddlers made the final turn into the Bay. As you’ll see by the images below, this race is a lot of fun. We bet there were a few needing an acai bowl afterwards!
